About Us

Who We Are

CaliforniaTimes.com is an independent outdoor sports and adventure guide dedicated to helping Californians—and those visiting—confidently explore the Golden State’s vast landscapes, from surf breaks to mountain peaks.

Our editorial team is made up of seasoned adventurers—surfers, trail runners, climbers, and outdoor writers—who bring years of hands-on experience in California’s most iconic (and hidden) outdoor playgrounds.

We’re passionate explorers ourselves. We know exactly what matters: reliable trail maps, surf reports you can trust, gear that won’t let you down, safety advice that actually works, and the inspiration to push your limits while respecting nature.

What We Do

Our mission is clear: Cut through the noise—deliver real adventure.

  • Hands-on, unbiased reviews of trails, surf spots, and ski resorts
  • Gear recommendations tested in real California conditions
  • Safety tips for outdoor sports, from wilderness hikes to ocean surf
  • Event listings for marathons, triathlons, surf competitions, and more
  • Seasonal guides for when and where to explore—from desert trails in spring to powder runs in winter

Every recommendation we make is based on firsthand exploration, tested gear, and up-to-date local knowledge.

Our Editorial Promise

  • Independence: We don’t sell placements—our reviews and guides are earned through experience, not sponsorship.
  • Transparency: We explain how we review trails, gear, and events—and disclose if we earn affiliate commissions.
  • Accuracy: All guides are regularly checked and updated for new safety advisories, trail conditions, and event details.
  • User-first: Our content is practical, accessible, and written for every level—from first-time hikers to lifelong surfers.
  • Respect for Nature: We encourage Leave No Trace principles, sustainable exploration, and responsible outdoor play.

Meet the Team

Our contributors are lifelong Californians, outdoor athletes, environmental advocates, and travel writers—each with their own expertise, whether it’s chasing waves in Malibu, trail running in the Sierras, or carving fresh powder at Tahoe.

Whenever possible, we also incorporate feedback and tips from local explorers to ensure our guides reflect real-world experience.
